"Technology
involves envisioning and developing products to meet human needs and wants, capitalise on opportunities and extend human capabilities.
Products of technology include artefacts, processes, systems, services and environments. These products make up the designed
world. Products of technology ahve impacts and consequences on individuals, local and global communities, and environments."

Technology : What
is it?
Technology is more than just computers
or information technology. Technology is evident in many aspects of our everyday life, from the most high tech computer system
capable of performing tasks almost beyond the realms of reality to the simple lead pencil or crayon wielded by a child to
create a work of art truly worthy of being afforded pride of place on the family refrigerator. Different ends of the scale
but still both prime examples of technology.
The 4 key concepts in Technology
Ideation
Ideation is a process of generating
and communicating ideas to meet design challenges and justify decisions. It involves:
- considering problems in a range
of ways.
- formulating solutions.
- choosing appropriate developmental
strategies.
- expressing veiws in a formalised
manner.
Investigation
Investigation involves the collection
of knowledge, ideas and data for use in meeting design challenges including:
- Examining similar designs.
- Consultating with relevant sources
to gather the acquired knowledge.
- Use of appropriate tools
- Evaluating challenges to meet
design challenges.
Production
Procedure and resource management
to ensure appropriate product development are the underpinning factors of the production phase.
Evaluation
Evaluation encompasses appraising
and reflecting on every aspect of the technological process including not only the production, design and materials but also
the appropriateness and impacts on an overall scale.
This website was created upon the
4 key concepts outlined above. Look at and use the links to build your own or utilise them with your own class to allow
them to experience technology for themselves in a meaningful and enjoyable way.
